Understanding Venus in Libra
Venus in Libra is Venus in one of its two traditional domiciles. Libra is a cardinal air sign. Here, a Venus reading can begin with the pleasure of finding a form that allows two distinct voices to be heard. Sometimes the clearest expression of this placement is the person willing to speak first when an arrangement has stopped working.
How a duet finds its balance
Two actors rehearse a scene across a kitchen table. The lines are evenly divided. Yet one actor has a long speech followed immediately by the curtain, and the other has no chance to show that something has landed. They try cutting a line. It makes little difference. Then one actor moves the moment she folds a letter. The audience can watch her decide what to do with what she has heard. Suddenly the scene belongs to both of them.
An equal count of lines was easy to achieve. What the actors wanted was a relationship the audience could feel. In a Libra Venus reading, consider who notices that difference, who proposes the first change and whose response tells them it has worked. Harmony may involve a frank disagreement about the shape of the scene. There is very little to harmonise if one voice has already disappeared.
What domicile tells you
Venus rules Libra, so its dispositor is Venus itself. That is also true of Venus in Taurus. Where the Taurus reading might dwell on the weight and feel of the letter in the actor's hand, the Libra reading follows the shift in attention between the two actors as she folds it. The planet describes what is valued. The sign gives the reader a different place to look for it.
Domicile is one piece of the chart. For example, place Venus at 18° Libra and the Moon at 17° Capricorn. Their longitudes are 198° and 287°. The separation is 89°, giving the square a 1° orb. Venus retains its domicile. A reader could explore a moment when the arrangement that pleases everyone leaves little room for one person's need for privacy or rest. That question comes from bringing the Moon into the reading. Libra alone would not supply it.
Does Venus in Libra belong in the seventh house?
The house depends on the Ascendant and house system. With Aries rising in Whole Sign houses, Libra is the seventh house. Keep the same Venus in Libra and use Libra rising instead, and Venus occupies the first. In the first example, a conversation about how two people negotiate a partnership might be a good starting point. In the second, start with the person's own manner of entering the room. The sign gives both readings something in common. The house changes who or what comes into focus first.
